lights out

who ordered the "tornadic cells", heavy rain, power outages, straight line winds, and flash flooding? geesh, this weather is less than ideal for outdoor activities. over the weekend, we were able to dodge the raindrops for a few baseball games, some live outdoor music, and a fair amount of yard work, but the rain did finally manage to put a bit of an interesting spin on the outdoor wedding we had. i just now cleaned my white shoes from the reception b/c the task was too daunting to tackle up till now...but i can't (and shouldn't complain) since the guests of honor, gina & shane, are now very happily married and made the most of the soggy, yet lively and entertaining evening. the live band provided great entertainment and the lack of electricity helped set a nice romantic vibe during our candlelit dinner.
on the flipside...i found myself a bit more concerned about the absence of power while running at the gym last night. 1 word: freaky. picture this, running...fast (this is subjective, but fast in my opinion) and then lights out, everywhere. i'm fairly sure i yelped while trying to get off the slowing belt i could no longer see b/c 1: i was seriously caught off guard, 2: i was wondering if i needed to crouch down into the tornado protection position, 3: how in the world would i (and the 30+ others) manage to crawl down the stairs in the dark. hard to believe that all this ran through my mind in the 30 seconds that elapsed without power. it's scary to think at what my mind is capable of when i'm given more time to digest these sketchy situations...ask steve, it's not normal.
till late fall i will continue to clutch my weather radio closely to help monitor this wild & crazy spring/summer weather. (thanks dad for such a functional birthday gift!)
