bffae

one of my very dearest friends, katy, came to visit last week. during her super short stay we were able to pack it full of much needed girl time. we closed down mac and really put them to work giving us both makeovers. i had to come to terms with the realization that i haven't changed my makeup colors/brands/tendencies since high school! yikes! so i was in a serious rut and needed some changes, and after putting the greatest (and most patient) little makeup artist, sally, to work for over 2 hours katy and i each walked out with some great bronzer. just bronzer. so sorry sally! we should've known that we were in trouble when there weren't any prices to be found on the makeup/brushes/moisturizes she was using. my $50 giftcard paid for my bronzer in full....and that was all. i couldn't break the bank on makeup, but i will be hitting up cvs, maybe target, for some more economical alternatives to mac.
early the next morning we decided to use the free ski passes that steve and i weren't able to use last wknd (he hurt his back shoveling the driveway...he's recovering nicely now though!) and hit the slopes @ paoli peaks. after a 2 hr drive we made it! everything was running smoothly. we were laughing (and soon sweating) as we tried to put on our gear. we then successfully picked out our poles and were walking with skis in hand to our lesson when.....we reached the top of the stairs to find a sign letting us know that the lesson was over and we'd need to wait 2 1/2 hrs for the next session. katy kept her cool and was super optimistic that we could easily teach ourselves how to ski. i believed in her optimism and was thankful for her constant encouragement. so after deciding we could teach ourselves we found some people who seemed competent enough in the skiing basics and asked them how to get our skis on...baby steps. okay, skis on...approach bunny hill. we both made it successfully down the hill! now time for the ski lift back up. i won't get into many details, but i will say that i struggled most with the ski lift that day and thanked quite a few people for lifting me up off the ground after ungraceful dismounts, stopping the lift for me, catching me, and picking up my pesky poles. katy, on the other hand, caught onto this much faster and gave me some great pep talks prior to each dismount. all in all, we had a blast together (as always!) and did end up catching the beginner lesson 2 1/2 hrs later. spending this time with my best friend reaffirmed just how thankful i am for great friends, laughing, new adventures, road trips, and teachable moments.

  1. LOL! I love reading your blog entries. Especially this one! I was cracking up laughing as I remembered how silly we must have looked attempting to ski! LOL!
